KARA + JAMES
A BOHO-MODERN BOURNE FARM WEDDING IN FALMOUTH, MA
- FEATURED IN -
Kara + James are a trendy, modern couple with a knack for details and fashion. As they planned their wedding, they knew Bourne Farm in Falmouth, MA, would be the perfect reception venue. Kara grew up on Cape Cod and wanted to transform this traditional coastal sanctuary space into a boho-dream in her childhood backyard. A black and white palette, rattan accents, modern font choices, and chic details brought this tented vision to life.
Kara and I crossed paths years ago when we met through our stellar hairstylist. Though she had moved out to San Francisco with James, they decided to come back to the east coast after they got engaged!
This unique invitation suite from Narrative Designs Co. set the tone immediately with its bold fonts and monochromatic design, proving that black and white can be far from simple!
The morning of the wedding, Kara and her bridesmaids wore matching robes as they got ready at the beautiful Museums on the Green in Falmouth. Olivia’s Hair Boutique swept Kara’s blonde tresses into a stunning updo, with a few wispy strands framing her face, allowing her stunning star cluster earrings to make a statement.
With hair and her romantic makeup look complete, Kara donned her gorgeous Willowby by Watters gown from BHLDN. The dress featured a fitted, blush-lined bodice covered in large floral lace blooms and an illusion neckline. The sheer back looked ethereal with delicate pearl buttons. Her nude block heels completed this modern boho look.
Meanwhile, James and his groomsmen donned their dark blue tuxes from The Black Tux, a single white bloom with a sprig of green decorating their black lapels.
The first time James saw Kara on their wedding day was as she walked down the aisle of St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Falmouth. As soon as she made her grand entrance, James began to tear up. It was such a sweet moment to witness!
Following the traditional ceremony, the bridal party posed for pictures with Anna Elizabeth Photography. The bridesmaids carried large white bouquets with lots of lush greens to match Kara’s from Sweet Annie Floral Design. We just loved how the four different silhouettes of their lilac gowns from the Dessy Group complemented both Kara’s a-line gown and the groomsmen’s blue tuxes. How fun was it to add a little champagne to the mix?
As guests arrived at Bourne Farm, they were greeted by a large personalized sign that featured the couple’s name and wedding date - a great keepsake! The farm’s old barn served as the quintessential Cape Cod backdrop to the reception’s white tents.
During cocktail hour, guests enjoyed the beauty of the farm.
The hedge escort wall was provided by Vintage Charm Event Designs, offering a unique way for them to find their seats.
Black chiavari chairs offset white tables decorated with rattan votive candle holders as well as bouquets of white blossoms, monstera leaves, and ferns in white textured vases. At the head table, a black and white runner added a sophisticated touch while three rattan basket lanterns completed the bohemian look.
At each place, a menu was set that matched the unique wedding stationery.
Kara + James made their entrance to a round of applause. All eyes were on the newlyweds as they shared their first dance as husband and wife.
After the toasts were made, Kara and her dad shared an unforgettable moment on the dance floor, followed by James and his mom.
During the reception, Kara + James were able to sneak away for a few moments. We just love these intimate shots that were captured throughout the grounds of Bourne Farm and the Salt Pond Area Bird Sanctuaries. They even climbed aboard this vintage white trolley from Rockstar Limo.
As the late summer sun shone down on them, Kara + James toasted to their happiness in front of a diamond backdrop, decorated with white blooms.
While everyone danced to the music provided by DJ Danny Walsh, twilight set in over the farm and the twinkling lights inside of the tent began to glow.
Instead of a large wedding cake, the couple opted for a one-layer confection, decorated in fresh flowers and frosting. Guests were treated to ice cream from Frozen Hoagies - a truly delicious way to end the evening!
One of the best parts about being a wedding planner is watching love stories unfold even after the big day. Kara and James now live around the corner from me and have extended their family with a cute baby girl!
Thanks Kara + James for letting us help you plan your dream day!
