EMILY + JUSTIN

A MODERN FALL ELOPEMENT IN BOSTON, MA

- FEATURED IN -

While many couples have postponed their weddings due to Covid-19, others are opting for romantic elopements or micro-weddings with just very close family and friends in attendance. But we believe that no matter how small the event, couples should have a special day to remember, and that includes engaging a wedding planner to make everything perfect.

This gorgeous fall-inspired editorial was captured by Rachel Buckley Weddings at Nile Scott Studios in Allston, MA. It was styled as an elopement followed by a small family dinner, and I think you’ll agree that the design is far from simple and simply elegant!

Our stunning bride and groom, Emily + Justin, were a sweet couple and a joy to work with. It was right around their first anniversary so this was a fun way for them to celebrate together.

This autumnal invitation suite by Max & Maiden Ink was an oversized trendy design on neutral handmade paper with deckled edges, wrapped in plant-dyed botanical silk ribbon from Silk and Willow. The vintage, colorful stamps on the calligraphed envelopes added a distinctive twist.

Emily looked stunning in her Romona Keveza gown as she held her incredibly gorgeous, full bouquet by J.Landry Co. for Beach Plum Floral. The airy design featured the classic oranges and yellows of fall, as well as touches of blush and mauve, and was finished with a chocolate brown velvet drape and matching bridesmaid piece.

Makeup Artist Amanda Jean gave Emily a natural look that allowed her beautiful freckles to shine through, while The Bridal Bar curled her auburn hair to create a modern Veronica Lake appearance. Glamorous chandelier earrings from Allegria Bridal accentuated her long, graceful neck.

Justin looked dapper, donning a navy tux with upscale black lapel from The Groomsman Suit and matching boutonniere.

To create the perfect fall tablescape foundation, we used Irish Flax Linen. It’s a heavier fabric with a touch of textural weave to reflect the seasonal change. Down the center of the table sat a row of low, airy, open florals in blush, mauve, orange and yellow, with a touch of colorful fall branches and minimal greens as well as wooden taper holders and pillar trays in a beautiful two-toned sandstone.

To set the table we used Chinaware reminiscent of handcrafted pottery, with a double-layered menu with gold seal, and accented each place setting with sleek, gilded gold flatware and angular stemware with a tinted amber bowl.

Suspended above the table were alternating, modern brass pendant lamps which heightened the space and finished off the look.

The gorgeous cake was something I've been dreaming up for a few years now - and I finally found an artist in B. Wild Baking Co. to bring to life! This five-tier textured beauty featured hand-painted gold flakes and a "ghost layer," using a spacer filled with a full floral piece instead of cake, giving it an ethereal look. Brooke from B. Wild hand tore a fondant later to look like deckled paper, truly stunning! A simple wooden cake stand and taper holders completed the table and the floral design was carried throughout in a show-stopping standalone floor piece that was nothing less than perfect.

And of course just because brides and grooms may be having smaller celebrations, it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have a way to remember their vows. You should always grab some romantic shots to commemorate your big day and we just love these intimate photos from Rachel Buckley Weddings. Can’t you feel Emily + Justin’s chemistry just jumping off the screen?

Bright and colorful designs are not common wedding practice in the Boston and Cape Cod area during this time of year, but with this editorial we wanted to bring a more modern, vivid design sense to reflect the way we viewed fall. I am hoping this will give some New England brides an alternative to the typical “go-to” fall looks!
